Ape Noir: A Teen’s Journey from GCSEs to Building a Brand

My name’s B ( well, a nickname anyway ) – that’s what my friends call me. I’m nearly 16, and while most people my age are stressing over GCSEs, I decided to take on something bigger: I started a brand called Ape Noir.

Why I Started

It all began with a simple thought. I’m old enough to apply for a driving licence, but somehow not old enough to vote. That didn’t sit right with me. My generation is the one that will be most affected by what’s happening in the world, yet we don’t even get a say. Instead of waiting around, I thought: if I want change, maybe I need to be that change.

I’ve always loved designing and sketching, so I asked myself, Why not take that passion and turn it into something people use every day? That’s how Ape Noir was born – not just as a clothing line, but as a movement.

What Ape Noir Stands For

Ape Noir is resistance-inspired. It’s about standing up against oppression and turning struggle into strength. The meaning is in the name:

Ape stands for courage, power, and resilience.

Noir represents the darkness people face, which, with support, can be turned into hope.

This isn’t just about fashion. It’s about giving a voice to the voiceless and supporting causes that matter. The plan is simple: use profits to give back to organisations already making a difference on the ground.

The Reality of Building a Brand at 15

Right now, it’s just me. No team, no money, no experience. I spend my evenings after school learning how to design, build a website, and source high-quality garments. Every mistake becomes part of the process. Balancing revision for exams with creating a brand isn’t easy, but it’s taught me discipline and persistence.

Where It’s Going

Ape Noir is more than clothes. It’s a statement. It’s proof that even when the odds are stacked against you, you can still build something meaningful. I hope to grow Ape Noir into a movement, connecting with people who believe in the same vision – justice, resilience, and hope.

This is just the beginning. I’m sharing every step of the journey online, hoping to inspire others to start something too. If Ape Noir speaks to you, check out our products now and join me in building a movement.

Stay tuned. This is only the start.
